The Ottawa Citizen An energy winner: Luxurious Guildcrest home earns R2000 awardThe largest builder of R2000 homes in Ontario, Guildcrest Building Corporation, was a finalist in the Ottawa-Carlton Home Builders' Design Awards earlier this month and last week was a winner in the Ontario Home Builders' Association competition for energy efficient homes. "There were three finalists from across the province for the R2000 catagory and we picked up the trophy. We were the winners," Guildcrest president David Poupore said during an interview from his offices in Morewood, Ontario. Guildcrest used tried and true Low E argon windows throughout the impressive West Carlton home, a high efficiency heat recovery ventilation system and a ground source heat pump. The three design features, combined with R50 insulation in the attic and R20 insulation in the walls, produced energy consumption that was 37 per cent below budgeted fuel billswhen measured by an independant R2000 testing team, says Poupore. Guildcrest, a company specializing in homes built in theri Morewood factory and then transported to sites in modules, has built 160 energy-wise R2000 homes since 1991. The west Carlton home is more than a story about energy efficiency. It's a story about the owners working with Guildcrest to design and build an innovative home that features dramatic open spaces, a Great Room, two-storey windows, and interior spaces that required precise engineering and special building technology. The result is a bright,
spacious home custom tailoredto suit the owners. The added bonus is the
energy bills are also easy on the owner's pocket book. |
